History: Snape had a pretty rough upbringing, coming from an unhappy home. His father was a muggle, his mother a wizard, which makes him a halfblood. During his childhood, the young Snape was often neglected, and his parents would fight a great deal. It was because of this and treatment by others that gave him a bitter attitude about other people. Perhaps also because of his dark and untidy appearance, others were also more than willing to stay well away from him.

The one person who he ever had much of a connection with was a neighborhood girl, Lily Evans. When the young Snape discovered she was also able to cast magic, he felt a kinship with her. Eventually, he got enough courage to sneak up and then speak to her, telling her the truth about what she was. She was distrustful of him at first, but eventually a friendship formed between them. The two went to Hogwarts, but the first rift in their friendship formed when Lily was placed in Gryffindor, and Snape in Slytherin. Also, Snape was acquainted with James Potter and Sirius Black early on, on his trip to Hogwarts, retorting to their preference for Gryffindor. Later on, the duo would nickname him "Snivellus".

Despite the slight problems, Snape and Lily remained friends up to their fifth year. Lily never approved of Snape's friends, who all shared an interest in the Dark Arts. But Snape defended that, since he had a natural interest in the Dark Arts himself. He had always had most interest in studying curses and other dark types of spells. In fact, he had always been very involved in his studies, even allegedly inventing some spells himself. During those five years at school he endured a lot of teasing and bullying from the Marauders, especially James and Sirius. But Snape in turn was capable of just as much cruelty as they were. One incident nearly cost Snape his life, as he was tricked by Sirius to visit the Shrieking Shack with a transformed Lupin inside. James saved his life, thus adding another reason for Snape to be bitter.

But the worst incident occurred at the end of his fifth year, the afternoon of their OWL in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Amid a watching crowd of laughing students, James levitated Snape to humiliate him. The worst part of this, beyond the embarrassment, was his losing his temper and calling Lily a Mudblood. In the days following that, she would never forgive him, and Snape knew it was unlikely to ever change, even in years. He entered Arcadia Garden not long after this incident, having hunted around Hogwarts for some means of revenge. Instead of revenge, he found escape in the Room of Requirement. A door opened for him, and there was Arcadia Garden. A new place, perhaps, from where he might start over. But with thoughts of Lily still bothering him, along with the irritation over the Marauders, it was he would find it much better here. His thoughts increasingly leaned toward practicing more Dark Arts, and thus to becoming a follower of Lord Voldemort.

At Arcadia, Snape was disturbed to see old classmates present, along with some bizarre people claiming to be from the future. Their claims annoyed him on a deep level. The fact that one of these future people was supposedly Lily and James' son gave Snape further resentment toward them. A couple other Death Eaters also joined him for a time, though, which allowed him to focus along with their plans. An extremely brief return of Lily gave Snape some questions about his loyalty, but she left abruptly, and he knew it was not meant to be. He reasoned he had more important things to do. Thus, he put extreme focus on his studies. He did very well in them, particularly Occlumency, taught by none other than Voldemort himself.

However, as much as he may have wanted to deny it, his pining over Lily was far from over... and when she returned, he had another chance. Unfortunately, many others from his past arrived- the group of Mauraders who were always a constant torment to him. Meanwhile, he developed new ideas for spells- especially curses. He spent his more boring classes working on these plans. When Voldemort took interest in a strange man known mainly as the Doctor, he involved Snape in a plot to kidnap his companion, Rose. Snape carried this out, even using one of his new spells in the process. But the plans were ultimately ruined and Snape punished for his efforts. He attempted to continue to please the Dark Lord in hopes of gaining more power and thus, in the end, be able to impress Lily. But Lily transferred back to Hogwarts again, leaving the boy again saddened for her presence. He therefore decided to return to Hogwarts for the upcoming seventh year.

From there, he matured in his studies, including his knowledge of the Dark Arts. Although he was a Death Eater, his loyalty to Lily made him change sides before the first downfall of Voldemort. He acted as a spy for Dumbledore from this point onward. He became the Potions Master of Hogwarts and would eventually teach the son of James and Lily, Harry. In particular, his knowledge of Occlumency became crucial for Harry to learn. He taught the boy throughout several grueling sessions.

In later years, more trouble would come when several students were transferred to Poseidon Academy. A thought occurred to Dumbledore to send in someone to watch over Harry and the others and ensure nothing harmful happened. Knowing Snape would remain loyal by now, he directed the grown version to Poseidon. Snape agreed, grudging, but willing because of his past with Lily. He was sent along and found himself already set up in a new position. His memory of his time there before was mysteriously gone... for now. A few odd comments from students have perked his interest, and caused him to begin investigating further as to their meaning. He discovered that he had been at the old version of the school many years ago as a student. The memories slowly returned to him the more that he looked into it. He also noticed some of his stock being stolen, causing him to procure a vicious pet from Count D as a countermeasure.

Eventually, though, it became clear that the Order and Dark Lord both needed his services back home. Snape left abruptly for home, without so much as an indication to any students that he was doing so. He returned none too soon- because right away Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy visited him, questioning his loyalty and asking his assistance in protecting Draco. He pledged his loyalty immediately, agreeing to help. Yet there was another promise he made. It was a vow to kill the already dying Dumbledore when the right time came- a mercy killing in order to spare Draco of the murder. At Hogwarts, he became the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Later in a climactic battle, he killed Dumbledore, gaining yet more hatred from Harry.

The Death Eaters gained the upper hand by the next year, and Snape was now appointed Headmaster. He used this position to protect Harry and the others, although not to anyone's knowledge at the time. He even used his Patronus to guide them at one point, another deed performed in utmost secrecy. Because of his apparent allegiance to the Dark Lord, he was forced to flee Hogwarts. Voldemort, however, did not award Snape's loyalty so well. Believing that he held the Elder Wand, Voldemort summoned him and set Nagini to attack him. The snake bit Snape with a fatal wound on the neck. In his last moments of life, Snape gave Harry his memories, revealing the truth of his love for Lily and commitment to the Order.

Yet, in a mysterious turn of events, that death was not the end for Snape. He awoke soon after in a very familiar setting- a school he had twice attended, known as Poseidon Academy. All of his memories from his times there were restored. To him, it was a sign that perhaps his sacrifice had granted him a chance at a new life. He resumed a position as a Potions instructor. As time went on, it became clear to him that he had been here before, or to be accurate, another version of himself. How that was possible, he wasn't sure, but he began to further investigate the matter and unravel the truth about his subsequent visits. He has never been able to find out why he's continually drawn to this school, but it is a small mystery that has little bearing on anything else.

To Snape's delight and torment, others began surfacing from his world... including Harry and his friends... but also none other than Lily, the one he'd secretly harbored love for all these years. He did his best to help Lily, while always keeping some secrets to himself. When Harry revealed the truth about him killing Dumbledore, he had to work hard to lessen the damage it caused between him and Lily. To his ire, James Potter also arrived, making it more difficult to deal with his feelings. But Snape continued to research, hoping to find some way to prevent Lily's untimely death.

In February of 2009, an Inquisition arrived, making him temporarily lose his powers. After the first wave of kidnappings and the Inquisitors' pronouncements, he became very determined to do something about their presence. Unfortunately, his actions caught their attention and he was taken with the next wave. He endured captivity as he did everything else; with a sneer and a bitter mood. It was astonishingly bizarre to experience something that was the exact opposite of Voldemort and his own desire for wizard superiority. Later that year, Snape did his part during another attack on the campus, this time inhuman invaders who practically overran the place for a time. Shortly after, he was swapped with an Alternate Universe version of himself. This other self was a muggle, as all wizards and muggles were swapped in his version of events. He was also married to Lily of all people, and dealing with a stepson, Harry, to the best of his ability. While he was still like himself in ways, he was also less harsh and cynical; indeed, he even sought to re-decorate his dungeon classroom and office. When the real Snape returned, he had no memories of that happening, but he did have quite a job ahead of him to restore his classroom to its normal condition.

Not long after things settled down, Lily disappeared. It was a heavy blow to him after all his attempts to prevent her from meeting her fate. He has had small thoughts of attempting to bring her back somehow, but is not so desperate as to try something Dark to achieve such a thing. Harry soon returned from a time not far from Snape's death, giving him word of Voldemort's defeat and the (unfortunate) pronouncement of himself as a hero of sorts back home. While it is a weight off of him not having to hide, it is still a point of frustration with Snape.

Personality: Snape is a very bitter, cold person for the most part, always ready with a cutting sarcastic remark. He's a very solitary man who doesn't care very much for other people. He doesn't have much tolerance for anyone thinking differently than him, either. As far as he's concerned, most students are just obnoxious nuisances the school would be better off without. If he decides he loathes someone, there is almost no chance for them to redeem themselves in his eyes. He holds grudges for a long time and never forgives and forgets. He is capable of feeling very powerful affection, but conceals it so deeply no one would ever think it possible. Snape prides the idea of 'brains over brawn.' He is ambitious in this regard, and has sought over the years to deepen his knowledge on subjects of interest. He excels at secrecy, having served as a double agent for the Order of the Phoenix for several years.

Appearance/physical attributes: Snape is a tall, imposing man with extremely pale skin and greasy, lank hair. He has a distinctive hooked nose, and very dark eyes in contrast to the near-white skin. These physical traits, along with his preference for black robes, give him a strong resemblance to a bat. Overall, he has a creepy and unapproachable look. He's not much of a physical fighter, being mostly reliant on magic to fend for himself. But he's surprisingly resilient despite that, being in good health. In magic, he excels, having a great deal of curses at his disposal. He's about average height, though being so thin he seems somewhat tall. He's inevitably scowling or a similar expression.
